Inlays & Onlays Mississauga

Have you heard of inlays and onlays before? If not, read more to learn how they can improve the appearance and function of your teeth. For additional information about inlays and onlays near you, call Smile Horizons Dental Arts today.

What Are Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays and onlays are used to improve the look and function of your teeth. Inlays fill the area between the cusp of the tooth. Onlays cover the cusp of the tooth.

Onlays are used when a tooth is damaged and cannot be repaired with a typical filling. Inlays are made to fit in the grooves of your teeth and can help with the restoration.

Inlays and onlays may be made of a variety of materials. The goal is for inlays and onlays to look natural. Our dentist will choose the best material for a natural look. This may include porcelain, gold, or resin.

To get an inlay or onlay, the tooth decay has to be removed. You will need to wear a temporary cover on the tooth until your custom inlay or onlay is made.

What Are the Benefits of Inlays and Onlays?

There are many great reasons to consider inlays and onlays, such as:

  • Saving money. Because inlays and onlays are durable, you won’t need to have them replaced or repaired often. Since they strengthen your teeth, they can help prevent additional damage.
  • Reducing your risk of developing an infection. Inlays and onlays help to keep any crevices sealed so bacteria can’t spread.

Who Needs Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays and onlays are a great option for anyone with damaged teeth. Inlays are used in place of a filling when the cavity is too large. If your cavity is too large, a filling is not always sufficient. However, if your cavity is even too large for an inlay, then an onlay or a crown must be used.
