Get the beautiful straight teeth you’ve always wanted with clear aligners

Think about someone you know who has a beautiful smile. Chances are, one of the things that make their smile great is that their teeth are straight and healthy! Straight teeth are aesthetically appealing and contribute to a healthy smile because they are easier to clean and, therefore, less prone to decay and gum disease. At Smile Horizons Dental Arts in Mississauga, Ontario, we are proud to offer our patients a discreet method for straightening their teeth: clear aligner therapy.

How clear teeth aligners work

The first clear aligners (Invisalign®) were invented in 1997, and since that time, several different types of clear aligners have been invented. As a result, millions of patients worldwide have straightened their teeth discreetly using this effective orthodontic treatment. Treatment with clear aligners is:

  • Nearly invisible to others, so no one needs to know you are undergoing orthodontic treatment
  • Comfortable, with no metal brackets or wires to poke your mouth
  • Convenient, with fewer checkups needed than traditional braces
  • Effective at treating a variety of alignment issues, such as gaps, crowding, crooked teeth, overbite, underbite, and crossbite

After taking precise digital images of your teeth and bite, your customized series of clear aligners are fabricated in a laboratory with comfortable dental-grade plastic. Each set of aligners is designed to gradually shift one tooth at a time into its optimal position and is worn for one to two weeks for at least 22 hours a day for the best results. The aligners are completely removable, which means that you can continue to enjoy your favourite foods without restrictions and don’t have to work around brackets and wires to brush and floss your teeth.

Clear dental aligners can be an excellent option for most patients interested in straightening their teeth or fixing jaw alignment problems. However, severe cases of misalignment typically require traditional orthodontic treatments such as braces or other oral appliance therapy. During an in-depth consultation, Dr. Hytham Elwi will learn about your goals and treatment preferences, along with performing a careful evaluation of your teeth and jaw to ensure that clear aligner therapy is right for you.
